It’s the start of the New Year and I noticed that many of my resolutions centered around self-improvement. From a career standpoint no organization has been more beneficial to my development than VMUG. Throughout the years the people I've met and the skills I've learned at VMUG have helped me keep up to date on Virtualization technologies ever since I saw my first vMotion. I've had a successful run as a virtualization technologist, but looking at my goals for 2018, I realized it's time to evolve. Silos are breaking down and companies want to do more with less. The public cloud is changing the way companies bring products to market.
Virtualization Experts need to understand networking and storage as well as compute. Containers and functions are here to stay. Machine Learning, Big Data, IoT, BlockChain, AI, are a few other technologies that technicians will need to have at least a basic understanding. With all the change in the industry, one thing remains constant: the VMware User Group is an independent, global, customer-led organization that maximizes members' use of VMware and partner solutions through knowledge sharing, training, collaboration, and events.
I'm not just the president of VMUG, I'm also a client, and I will be looking to VMUG to help make me a better technician and employee. We will be launching a set of career development webinars free for all members. VMUG Usercons and local meetings will have a renewed focus on customer presentations. The VMUG communities website will allow for discussions on new and emerging technologies. And, I will keep the conversation going in my new president's blog where I'll discuss some of the challenges I'm experiencing as I navigate my way through all the changes 2018 brings.
As always, thank you for being a member and let’s have a great 2018!
