    RE: Home Lab

My current home lab is a nested vCenter with two ESXi hosts on 6.5 since I'm preping for the VCP-DCV 6.5 exam.  Unfortunately I can't afford a physical lab environment, so I don't have any of actual lab hardware yet.  Ideally I'd like to get either something ...

  • Workshop Invitation - Cloud Automation Services

I wanted to invite you to this workshop right in your community. On February 28th we have a hands on Cloud Automation Services workshop at WWT’s headquarters  in Westport. Here’s the link to register for the workshop: and the word doc has all the details.

VMware recently launched our next generation automation solution, CAS aka Cloud Automation Services. CAS includes Cloud Assembly, Service Broker and Code Stream. These SaaS services have deep functionality for AWS, Azure and vSphere environments. vRA customers will be entitled to this functionality when it becomes available on premises in approximately Q3.

Many customers have a multi-cloud strategy and expect a seamless experience across hybrid and native public clouds. They are interested in using the richness that each cloud has but at the same time they want policies to govern placement and utilization of their workloads across clouds. We kept these needs in mind when we created CAS which offers programmable provisioning with three rich services that define, aggregate and deploy across multiple clouds.

    1.                   Cloud Assembly is our multi-cloud provisioning service that provides an abstraction layer across multiple clouds. Cloud Assembly provides a Cloud API layer that is utilized by its templating engine (Blueprints). The Cloud API can also be used by 3rd party tools or by products such as Pivotal Cloud Foundry, Pivotal Kubernetes Service, etc.

    2.                   Service Broker has three main roles:

It’s a catalog (or storefront) for curated templates from multiple clouds
It governs usage of templates and services through policy definition and configuration
It’s a broker between Cloud Assembly services and 3rd party managed services

    3.                   Code Stream targets developers and admins of both infrastructure and applications. Code Stream is a continuous delivery service that includes pre-built continuous integration plug-ins for dev tools (i.e. Git, Jenkins) and orchestration systems (i.e. K8s). Code Stream automates deployments though various stages leading to production.

You can RSVP to the evite link or let me know via email and I will register you. Feel free to share this with others at your work or VMUG members.
