Please join us for a exciting and information packed VMUG meeting hosted at the new LightEdge data center located in Altoona. This meeting will include great content from VMware, Cohesity, and LightEdge. Then you will be invited for a tour of their new, state of the art, facility.
Please note a number of important items:
- The 2:30 start time which will allow plenty of time for our presenters, tour, and networking.
- I scheduled the tours at the end of the day, but some tours may be offered during the event for those that can't stay after 5pm and wish to have a tour.
- Since this is an "on site" experience, we will not be offering the "remote location" option this meeting. We will add that back during the next meeting. Sorry for the inconvenience.
- For security reasons, all attendees MUST register for the meeting. Guests will be allowed, but will be required to register when they arrive.
2:10 - Attendees are welcome to begin arriving.
2:30 - Introduction - Tim Mosbach & Matt McLaughlin
2:35-3:15 - Cohesity - Ryan Labarre
At its core Cohesity is a backup and data protection company, in addition to a platform for secondary storage. Cohesity has integrated backup software that does the data protection piece for you to our hardware or you can simply treat us as a backup target storage for your existing backup vendor.
We offer native CIFS, NFS and S3 object storage either running on us, or as a target for archival and can restore hundreds of vms with our instant mass restore function. Couple that with native born applications that seek out credit cards in plain text, weak passwords, and it starts to put your backup data to work rather than just being an insurance policy. We have a video compression app that can take old video, re encode at 20x smaller footprint.
3:20-3:55 - LightEdge & vCloud Director - Nate Olson-Daniel
LightEdge has spent a decade building and managing private clouds using VMWare. Our next generation compliant cloud offering will be powered (yet again) by vCloud Director. I will take users through the features of vCloud Director and show how it can help facilitate Hybrid Clouds, orchestrate various VMWare tasks, and provide a multi-departmental and multi-tenant environment with role-based administrators. Multi-tenancy and role-based administration can be used to bring Shadow IT back into compliance by giving business groups direct access to corporate-sanctioned resources. This leads to financial predictability as well as allows for security and compliance oversight of business data.
4:00-4:45 - Wavefront - Debbie Kostielney
Wavefront is a SaaS-based metrics driven monitoring and analytics platform that companies such as Lyft, Box and Home Depot use to monitor the performance of cloud applications at scale. The core of Wavefront is an app that ingests and digests time series data for technologists to ask questions of that data real time. Wavefront collects and analyzes metrics from distributed apps running on public and private cloud including containers, AWS, GCP, Azure, microservices, cloud infrastructure and even business data. Use it as your first pane of glass into Apps to identify issues earlier, triage, narrow the likely cause, and then drop into event data (Logs) and stack traces (APM) with the focus to find the additional details required for remediation.
4:45-4:55 - Closing Remarks and Giveaways - Tim & Matt
5:00-5:45 - Data Center Tours & Social Hour
Please plan on hanging around for a while and enjoy some food and beverages while you mingle with other Vmug Members. Light Edge will also be hosting tours of the data center during the social hour. If you'd like to see more information about the data center before the visit please click here.
